While we were in Huahine, Pierre from Nanuk pedalled to our boat and started chatting to Grant. Cool fella. He rowed across the Atlantic when he was young. A avid sportsman with lots of water sports toys like Grant.

At some point they talked about Starlink and Pierre said his Starlink is working. Wow, we've had the device on the boat since last November (when we met Craig's family in Tahiti) but couldn't get it to work.  We thought it's not available in French Polynesia.

It's been such a challenge with internet connection in French Polynesia. Often we would go for days or weeks without mobile reception. When there's reception, we would use a Vini hotspot wifi device which costs a fortune for every 50GB. We also bought dozens and dozens of 10G prepaid data cards for our phones. The problem is that with so many devices onboard, and iCloud, photo library, iOS and app updates, the data just got sucked up and disappeared in no time and we had to buy new packages again and again. We changed our device settings, disabled iCloud which caused a lot of problems. It was a huge pain.

Upon hearing that Starlink is working, Grant immediately took out the box, plugged it in and voila, we got instant internet!!!! Unlimited wifi! Wow, it's a game changer. Elon Musk is a genius indeed.
