Unfurling the black sail

Day 3 FP to Cook Islands  •

Dear Delphine and Grant, and your beautiful daughters, What an astonishingly thrilling and fascinating and exciting adventure you are on! I just watched some of your videos, and they are delightful, not to mention exotic. Oh, Grant, are you going to turn your daughters into LPGA champions? Delphine, are you golfing too? Here in Manhattan, life is adventurous in its own way. My daughter, Anna, decided to be a single mom (after assorted boyfriends) via IVF with one of her good friends, a gay opera singer. She had frozen her eggs in both Spain and Italy, and last summer, in June, they did the IVF in Madrid, and amazingly it worked!! She had a daughter, Lily, on March 13th! She loves both the baby and being a single mom. Our tiny family of two has suddenly expanded - because the baby daddy's parents - both academics and psychologists - are cuckoo for the baby - and have become very good friends of ours. It is pure luck that we get along wonderfully with everyone. Luck, luck, luck. I'm writing obituaries for the Times - advance obits on assorted folks who are still alive - and Overlooked obits on remarkable folks that the Times overlooked during their lifetimes. Three that have run were on Junichi Arai, the amazing Japanese textile designer, Issey Miyake, and Clara Driscoll, who designed 63 of Louis Comfort Tiffany's most beautiful stained glass lamps. It's very interesting writing them. And it's certainly age appropriate. Am about to write one on Rei Kawakubo, Comme des Garcons. Your voyage is sublime! Am very excited for you! Love, Elaine, Anna and Lily
