It is 7:30am. We have 197nm to go. The wind is fresh to strong. 20knots gusting 25. We are sailing close to the wind at around 75degrees apparent which mean the wind is into us from our port side at about 10 O’clock if that makers sense. The sea is rough but the sun is out and we can sense home but as the old adage goes; “Most accidents happen in the last mile” we will stay vigilant and safe. I have a conservative sail plan with the storm jib/stay sail and one reef in the main. I honestly would prefer 2 reefs in the main but am scared that the risk of heading into the wind and dropping a reef might be more dangerous than trying to sail a little off the wind. Lots of jargon I know but in simple terms i am very alert, fighting elements slightly trying to get us home safely. I am tired and only got 2 hours rest last night I know we are almost there.

We should arrive tomorrow around this time so just 24 hours left.

I have done many things in my life. Many I know would consider me a little crazy. I am sure that this adventure is no different to them. However to me this is more than just a dream. It is something I have always felt I needed to do. Like some calling from my viking roots. Or maybe the fact that my Dad was an Olympic sailor or my brother is an awesome racing sailor. I don’t know but I do know that I feel very at home and at peace in the ocean, where others may feel trepidation I feel excitement. Don’t get me wrong. I also feel scared at times and there have been many of those times during this passage. But we are near the end and I only feel pride. Pride for my incredible family and the way they have accomplished themselves. Each of them have played their part.

So what’s been happening?

Yesterday we caught a 16lbs Wahoo which we already started eating for dinner last night. We had the most epic sunset sail flying the gennikar 2 nights ago when Big Alex maned the sheet for 2.5 hours whilst we caught up 6nm on Dragonfly. The girls have started writing their blog on the journey which I will share soon. We have not managed to break anything (why am I writing this? Touch wood). The food is off the charts as always with cinnamon rolls yesterday and artisan bread out of our oven. And most importantly beautiful sailing conditions with an awesome family!!!

Next up will be a post on all the numbers of this trip including the fact that we would have completed 3250nm in only 16 days.
