Arabella and Alex got to know Cartagena town really well. They walk to school every day and ride their scooters from home to the marina where our boat is moored. We met another sailing family – Alex, Tom and their 10 years old son James. Their boat’s name is Alchemy. Their family has been sailing for over 6 years! Alex and Tom shared their home schooling insights and reading list with me. James also joined the girls’ Spanish class and the kids got along fabulously.
Monica, the Spanish teacher took the kids one day to the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology. She also introduced the kids to the best churros in town, and now the girls’ favourite food.
After 6 years of owning the boat, things got bought and forgotten, and dumped into a hatch and never to be seen again. Hence we emptied out our boat completely so that we could throw/ give away things that we don’t use, and for us to reorganize everything from scratch to make a proper home for the family.
Grant woke up at 6:30 every morning and went straight to the marina to supervise the day’s work on the boat. There is a lot of engineering and sails work being done. From morning till late, he worked non stop. His worklist is never ending
- Installing electric furler for genoa sail
- Installing new solar panels on top of bimini
- Adding stainless steel racks in various places on the boat for storage and safety
- Deep cleaning
- Converting a crew cabin to workshop
- Getting a new dinghy and making modification to the console
- Electrical
- Plumbing
- Sails and sheets
- Adding and adjusting shelves to cabinets
In addition, we started going to Espacio Mediterraneo Centro, a mega district where you can find kitchen and electronic stores, Mega Asia, Leroy Merlin, Carrefour, Decathlon, etc. Basically you can buy everything here. Had serial Taco Bell meals there... Yucks!
Over the weekend, the girls came on the boat to help with the cleaning. They did a great job – they washed the deck, put cushions back in clean cushion covers, put pillows and cushions out in the sun, cleaning garbage gin, sorting towels and cloths, organizing spare parts, etc. They were exhausted at the end of the day!
